NextGen Academy - Urban Forum
The Missouri Conference of the United Methodist Church has identified missional leaders as their essential priority. Missional leaders are intentionally growing in Christ in order to serve with vision and hope for the Christian community. A disciple becomes a missional leader as they identify others, who identify others, who practice following Christ. Missional leaders are freed to lead in the context of their community, local church and beyond.
To identify these missional leaders, Next Generation Ministries has created the NextGen Academy to be an environment for students and young adults to discover and grow in their faith alongside friends and mentors during quarterly events. Students will explore spiritual gifts, leadership development, and service and mission. This exciting, free program enables students ages 13-18 from across the state to grow in their faith amongst a community of curious Christians just like you!
The second NextGen Academy event aims to expand the participants’ worldview and raise awareness of what is happening in society today. The Urban Forum will tie in social principles and focus on food insecurity and education. This is an opportunity for students to identify what these issues look like in their community and what they can do to respond.Agenda
Worship and poverty simulation led by Dan Richter
Small and large group discussion followed by worship Dan Richter
A native of St. Louis, Dan Richter participated in his first mission trip in junior high and has been committed to volunteer service ever since. Following his graduation from Creighton University, Dan joined CapCorps, a post-graduate volunteer program in which he lived in community and volunteered at a non-profit organization in Chicago, IL. He began working at Kingdom House in 2014 and was initially attracted to the organization because of its motto “Change Begins Within.” That statement mirrored his belief that volunteering is transformational for those serving as well as those served. Dan and his wife Kelsey live in Maplewood, MO with their 2 rescued pets: a cat named Whiskers and a dog named Barley. Dan is a son, brother to one sibling, and uncle to two nieces as well as a runner, cyclist, and backyard gardener. Fun Fact: Dan has run the Go! St. Louis ½ Marathon 5 times and takes dessert very seriously.
